Storytime Policy

The Dover Public Library’s Children’s Department offers programs which provide early literacy skills to children and encourages them to become lifelong readers. Among these programs is Storytime. Storytimes are provided as a service to the community and there is no charge. Programs at the Dover Public Library are open to anyone who uses the Library.

Because demand for Storytime is very high, the Library offers several Storytime programs for different ages at different times during the week. Most Storytimes are designed to meet the individual needs of the ages specified. Age specific Storytimes require registration. Children may only be registered for one of these Storytimes at a time. A patron may only sign his/her child up for a program for his or her specific age group.

The Library offers two storytimes that do not require registration: Friday and Saturday Storytimes. The Friday Storytime require tickets, which may be picked up at the Children’s Service Desk the Wednesday prior to Storytime. Ten minutes after the program begins, tickets are forfeit and patrons waiting will be allowed in. Saturday Storytime does not require tickets . Children who are registered for age specific storytimes may attend one or both of the Friday/Saturday storytimes.

A parent or an adult caregiver must stay during storytime. Well-behaved siblings are welcome at the discretion of the Children’s staff.

Cellphone use during Storytime is not allowed. A participant may be asked to leave the program if a staff member judges that the patron’s actions are interfering with the ability of others present to hear and participate fully.

Strollers should be parked outside of the programming room. Food is not permitted in the programming room. Drinks are allowed as long as they are in children’s spill-proof containers.

The staff may cancel a series when there is low enrollment.
