Art Gallery

The Dover Public Library Art Gallery showcases local artists throughout the year on the walls of the first floor. Art of multiple mediums is featured, including photography, watercolor, and collage. If you are interested in having your art displayed in the Art Gallery as part of a group show or one person show, please contact Winifred Way, Art Gallery Coordinator, at artistbytheway215@gmail.com. If you are interested in purchasing any of the art on display in the Art Gallery, please contact the artist directly. Please note that all art works stay up until the end of each show.

The current exhibition on display in the Art Gallery features artwork from Jennifer Boland and will be on display April 10 through June 28. The exhibit features “Flowers in Many Views.” A reception will be held on Sunday, April 28 at 1 pm.

An exhibit of children’s art work is on display just outside of the Kids Space.

Artwork on the second floor is on long-term loan from the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs. Featured pieces include “Sussex Winter, Abbott’s  Mill” and “By The Sea,” both by Peggy Kane Johnson. These paintings can be viewed on the walls at either end of the second floor.

In 2019, the Dover Public Library acquired a set of 10 historic United States flags from the Air Mobility Command Museum. The 10 flags are reproductions of flags dating from 1776 (The Grand Union) to 1877 (The First Centennial) and represent different periods and geographic areas of the early years of the United States. Through collaborations with The Holly Branch of the National League of American Pen Women and Delaware Public Archives, the flags were repaired and informational plaques for each flag were reproduced. These flags and plaques explaining their significance can now be found hanging on the walls of the second floor of the Library.
