Seed Library

The Dover Public Library Seed Library is a rotating collection of seeds that will grow locally, available for free to the public for growing at home. It is made possible by The Friends of the Dover Public Library, Dover Public Library, and Delaware Master Gardeners. We ask that each patron take only four (4) seed packets per visit and sign them out on the form by the Seed Library. The Seed Library is currently in hibernation and will be back in March 2025!

No – the seeds are yours for the taking. We only ask that you report what you take so we can track use and variety popularity.
That depends on the variety. The envelope labels detail the usual plant size and care requirements for each variety.
Yes! Just bring at least 6 seeds in their original packaging, clearly labeled by type, to the second floor reference desk and let them know that you are donating to the Seed Library!
The largest update to the Seed Library occurs right before our annual Plantapalooza event in April. Other than that, seeds are added as they are available. The goal is to always have the most popular seeds in stock.
