Policies

The Library strives to maintain an atmosphere that promotes the use and enjoyment of its resources and services; promotes the safety of the public and Library staff; and protects the building, furniture, equipment, and materials of the Library. All members of the public are welcome at the Dover Public Library. We expect Library staff to treat customers of the Library with courtesy. In turn, we expect Library customers to behave in the Library with dignity and in such a way that their actions do not interfere with the functions of the Library or with the convenience and comfort of other customers.

As part of its Mission, the Library obtains and provides its community with resources that educate, inform, and entertain individuals according to these guidelines.

All Delaware residents are entitled to a library card which can be used in any public library in the state of Delaware. Please complete a Library Card Application and bring it to the library along with a photo ID or proof of Delaware residence or register for a library card online. Special cards are available for kids and educators.

The Media Lab is located on the third floor of the Library and has special equipment and software available, including the Adobe Suite, a green screen wall, and microphone.

The Parent Laptop is available for parents and caregivers who are monitoring their children in the library’s Kids Space.

Library customers may pre-pay for computer printing services by creating a pre-paid deposit account.

The Library supports its mission by developing and presenting programs that provide opportunities for information, discovery, and entertainment.

The Study Rooms are located on the second floor of the Library and are silent workspaces for up to 4 people. Study rooms may not be used by organizations affiliated with profit-making or partisan political sponsorship; sectarian religious services or instruction; private parties, celebrations, or private clubs.

The Library supports community organizations and welcomes tours of the Library or storytime sessions for groups. All Library Visit Requests require a minimum of at least two weeks notice from the time the form is submitted.

The Library is not accepting volunteer applications at this time.

The Library Network, supported by the Delaware Department of State, Division of Libraries, provides access to electronic information resources through the Internet to all Delaware public library card holders in good standing. Users of public library computers must enter their library barcode number and their Personal Identification Number (PIN) to access the Internet. Users of personal mobile devices in the library are also subject to this Computer Acceptable Use Policy.

The Library provides programming for youth according to the below procedures.
